Core FAQs

What is the ACTS Core team?

ACTS Core is a governing body of 5 men and 5 women. Half are from Immaculate Conception and half are from St. Mark. ACTS Core solicits the support and is governed by the pastors of Immaculate Conception and St. Mark parishes. The greater good of the parishes is foremost in the activities and decisions of the Core team.

Core team meets once a month.  Current Core members and their positions are listed on home page of this website.

How are members of Core team selected?

Members of the Core team are practicing Catholics registered at either St. Mark or Immaculate Conception. They must be committed to the building of the ACTS community and to the ACTS Core as a ministry. They must live a moral, ethical, and faith filled life in communion with the Catholic Church. These members must have been a retreatant on an ACTS retreat, served on at least two ACTS teams, and displayed leadership abilities.

Core team prayerfully chooses, from a list of eligible people, who will be asked to serve. Those who are selected include:  two men from Immaculate Conception, two women from Immaculate Conception, 2 men from St. Mark, 2 women from St. Mark, and 1 person chosen at the discretion of Core.

The process is as follows:

The Facilitator of Core reads from the Acts of the Apostles 1:23-26. Time is then spent reflecting on the reading and all Core members pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Each Core team member writes a name on a ballot. These names are placed on a Bible or in a container and are selected by choosing lots with the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth choices recorded. Those names are asked to serve, in the order they were selected.

How long does a Core team member serve?

Two years

How are directors for the ACTS retreat selected?

Core team selects directors in the same manner as selecting Core members. See process listed above.
